Autumn…my favorite time of year. New England…my favorite place to be. I am thankful to be home!

It has been four years since I last saw New England ’s foliage. While in the midwest, I would get a little depressed when October came. I knew what I was missing. The slow progression of leaves from green to an array of colors. Would they turn yellow, red, orange? Poison sumac is the most beautiful of all. Not nice to touch, but so nice to see during the fall.

The chill in the air… not too cold and oh, so refreshing! This week, the leaves are beginning to fall to the ground, here in Connecticut. It is bittersweet. I love walking through the crunchy leaves and send them flying through the air with a brisk kick in my step. But, I know that with each fallen leaf, a branch becomes bare.

The winter can be long, with grey tree limbs blowing in the cold air and months of grey sky above. But, it isn’t winter yet.

It is autumn in New England, and there really is no place like home.
